New Neighbors League

ABOUT NEW NEIGHBORS LEAGUE CLUB.

PURPOSE

The purpose of New Neighbors League Club (NNLC) is to bring together the new neighbors of the City so they may meet and become friends while adjusting to new surroundings. The Club is a not-for-profit social organization with a variety of interest groups and special activities, including monthly luncheons and speakers.

HISTORY

NNLC is the official social club of New Neighbors League, Inc. (NNLI), which was founded in Dayton, Ohio in 1939 by Theodore R. Briggs, a former newspaperman .Out of the business of greeting new residents grew a recognized need for a social organization that allowed newcomers to meet others who were also new to the area.
Theodore's wife, Bunny, lived in many cities throughout the United States and knew the loneliness associated with moving into unfamiliar areas. With the aid of the Ohio Federated Women's Club, she drafted the Constitution and By- Laws for NNLC. The first Chapter was chartered in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1943. As the greeting service operations were established across the country, new club chapters were founded.
Dayton was home for New Neighbors League until 1986 when Corporate and Club Headquarters were moved to Atlanta, Georgia and Cheryl Fischer-Beaudreault (an Atlanta New Neighbor) assumed the position of National President. Presently there are fourteen operations nationwide. Each Chapter operates independently within established guidelines and under the direction of a local Board and Club Director.

Greetings from Headquarters!
It is a pleasure to welcome you to our Club of fun and friendship. It seems like only yesterday that I attended my first New Neighbors League coffee after relocating to Atlanta, Georgia. I remember gazing over the room full of strangers and hoping I would be accepted. In my own anxious anticipation, I had forgotten everyone else, like me, was new and alone.
As I sat and listened to others shyly introduce them- selves and relate anecdotes about their recent move, I realized we shared more than being new to the area. We had all ventured out that morning to satisfy our needs for friendship and emotional support in our new lives. Since that first day it has been my privilege to meet and work with many sincere and talented people in our organization. As National President, I have the opportunity to visit our affiliated Chapters. Regardless of my destination, I always find open and friendly attitudes in our members.
In addition to offering you instant friendship, we support a variety of activities and interest groups. If presently we don't offer an activity you enjoy, be our leader and establish a new group using your talents and skills. Remember too, our Board positions are vacated each six months to provide you and other new members the opportunity to participate in Club leadership.
Our Club can become your extended family, as we offer to you warmth and support while you settle into new surroundings.

Enjoy all that is available to you and remember to always greet someone new with a smile. Yours in fun and friendship,

ABOUT THE BUSINESS….

NEW NEIGHBORS LEAGUE, INC.

The business of NNLI is to promote the community to families who have recently moved into the area. NNLI serves as a greet- ing and referral service representing selected businesses and professionals to relocated families.
Prior to being accepted for referral, all clients are required to submit a business profile including their qualifications and references. Selected for promotions are those who can best understand and serve the unique needs or priorities of new residents.
The businesses promoted by NNLI are referred to as “sponsors" in NNLC because the revenues generated from NNLI services provide the financial resources needed to locate and greet new residents, allowing a continuous flow of potential members to NNLC.
"Sponsors " are the only for-profit businesses or professionals permitted to give programs or participate in Club functions.

AREA MANAGER

The Area Manager (Club Director) directs the local operations for NNLI and is responsible for screening and selecting the businesses endorsed. Additional duties include establishing resources for locating new residents and hiring and training Area Representatives.

AREA REPRESENTATIVES

The individuals who locate and visit new residents are known as Area Representatives.
